La Paloma Group Home When La Paloma Group home was constructed in the 1970's, it was developed for the purpose of providing quality residential placement for adults with developmental disabilities. La Paloma was a board and care facility until 1993, when it became licensed by the Department of Health Services as an Intermediate Care Facility Developmentally Disabled Habilitative (ICF-DD-H). As an ICF-DD-H the group home now provides active treatment to the residents living there. Through participation in La Paloma programs and outside day programs, the residents receive an opportunity to acquire skills necessary to function independently within the environment and society. Normalization is a focal point at La Paloma Group Home. Each person has an individualized service plan designed to enable them to function at the highest physical, intellectual, social or vocational level he/she can presently or potentially achieve. Throughout the resident's placement at La Paloma, ongoing efforts are made to ensure the appropriateness of current placement and to aid the individual in transition, as appropriate, to other community-based programs, or to a less restrictive living environment, allowing for greater degree of independence. La Paloma retains several consultants such as an RN, Dietician, Recreational Therapist, etc. who aid in the general health and well being of the residents. La Paloma is home to six residents, including two nonambulatory persons. We currently have three men and three women ranging in age from 32 to 62 years. The program provided by La Paloma strives to aid the resident in achieving a sense of human dignity and personal worth necessary to attain a positive self-concept. Once this self-esteem and competence is acquired, the resident can function in a more normalized manner in the least restrictive environment possible |
